Gills and Shadows

This selection of woven samples explores the delicate translucency of mushroom gills. I only used delicate shades of whites, pinks and grays to explore light and shadows filtering through white mushroom gills. In these experiments I explored different textures of silk and ramie fibers. Overall for my final experimentation I decided on Ramie as when the light hit the sample, a more translucent watercolour affect was produced. And while the silk added a soft glistening much like the cap of the mushroom can produce, overall the gills was best woven with a ramie warp to produce the papery texture I was looking for.
